The path of Superion is the ultimate journey into the dark and forbidden domains of knowledge, strength, power, hatred and the loss of weaknesses such as the "guilty conscience" and the feeble moralities that are forced on to the common man of this age. Without the purest of commitment to these words, there can be no victory.

This is where it all began. That 30% or so of black metal bands who play that style that sounds like nothing but chaos to the inexperienced and at its best represents the dizzying heights that black metal can be taken to. Beherit, Proclamation, Conqueror, Revenge, Archgoat… these bands would sound nothing like they do or did if it wasn’t for Blasphemy. Combining the speed of grindcore, the hardness and grit of first wave death metal, and the evil of early black metal (such as Mayhem – Deathcrush), Blood upon the Altar showcases Blasphemy’s unique take on extreme metal in its rawest, most unrefined form. Their instantly recognizable style would soon be developed and matured until it reached its peak on Gods of War four years later, but Blood upon the Altar is still an undeniable classic, the very first of its kind. In 2008 my brother in law Henry, perhaps known to some of you as Riton, released his "Eine Kleine Nacht Musik" album. This beautiful (& maybe a bit overlooked) album was in part inspired by the records that I'd lent him from my Krautrock collection. We put this "Eine Kleine Tonite Mix" together to accompany that album in an unofficial capacity, to showcase this Krautrock music, as a gift to his fans & as a promotional tool for my (now defunct) clothing label Tonite. I say "we", but infact the mix is all Henry's work; I once again lent my records, suggesting what I thought were the strongest tracks. Henry by no means stuck to these suggestions, choosing what he felt would work & blending the seperate tracks together into a seamless whole. Some tracks are on the mix in their entirety & some are quite severely edited. I love what he's done with it...even tunes that are well familiar to my ears are given a new life. One last thing for the purists: not all the artists on this mix are German but all the music was released on German labels.
Enjoy!

Parabellum (of Colombia) were a big influence on Mayhem or at least Euronymous and you can tell. If you like Reencarnación then you'll probably be into this too. It compiles all of the Parabellum material, well 2 EP's Sacrilegio '87, Mutacion Por Radiacion '88 and some demo/rehearsal recordings. Anyway i was reading a review of this release and thought it funny 'cos everything this fella hates about it is everything i thinks fuckin' great...
"Just listen to the first track ''Engendro 666''. Starting with a acoustic guitar section which just doesn't fit, plus the guitar is out of tune. (Hah, normally I'm having a hard time hearing that, but this was just too easy to notice.) Then, the basic drumming kick in, some guitar ''riffs'' out of nowehere appear and the vocalist is screaming his ass off and it sounds like he's having no idea what he's singing. At 4:16 there's a guitar ''solo'' which has absolutely no purpose and sounds more irritating than good. What's next? Noise! Lot's of fucking noise! Someone make it stop, please! The vocals, which sound too chaotic are the best on this compilation. The vocals are similar to those done by that guy from Necrovore, something in between of black/death metal vocals. They sometimes, however sound over dramatically and chaotic. The lyrics weren't written in English, so I can't judge them. The guitar riffs are mediocre and uninspired and more noise than anything else. The guitar ''solo's'' are nothing more than pure garbage. The drumming is either too basic, like a standard metal band, or totally lacks rhythm and plays something chaotic that doesn't fit songs. The song writing is just bad. Lot's of random noise and annoying random screams/growls, rhythm lacking drumming, weird guitars. The production is also bad. The instruments sound either like a big mess and create noise, or sound separated from each other, like they were afraid to record this, which isn't a weird idea actually."
By the way the cover above is from Mutacion Por Radiacion 'cos the one provided by Blasfemia stinks.

Classically trained musicians Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter formed Organisation in 1968. Their music was a mixture of sounds, feedback and rhythm. The band took part in various performances at art galleries and universities.
They recorded one album for RCA Victor early 1970. The line up was Fred Monicks on drums, Butch Hauf on bass, Basil Hammoudi on percussion, Florian Schneider on flute and violin and Ralf Hütter on organ. The sales were poor but nowadays it is very sought after and many bootleg releases exist.
After Organisation Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider continued as Kraftwerk. (Discogs)

Sometimes recognized as a virtuoso pianist, sometimes as a composer in his own right, Frederic Rzewski is one of the most consistent, creative personalities of the last few decades. He is capable of exhilarating energy, performing his long piano compositions as to develop insightful ideas about the role of artists in a broader socio-historical context. The Sixties took Rzewski to Europe performing Stockhausen, Boulez, Cage, Bussotti, Kagel and many other composers as well as co-founding the influential electronic ensemble MEV with Alvin Curran and Richard Teitelbaum. Around 1969, he composed "Les Moutons de Panurge," a radical experiment with additive melodic formulas labeled after as minimalism. A few years after this piece, Rzewski balanced minimal accented cells with political texts in the remarkable "Attica" and "Coming Together". During the seventies, he was deeply concerned about problems relating to crises in musical theory, sociopolitical questions and aesthetic language. Regarding all of this, Rzewski's music has coped with many tensions and, in his own words, "it seemed to me (that) there was no reason why the most difficult and complex formal structures could not be expressed in a form which could not be understood by a wide variety of listeners", something for which he was criticized for. Sprung Aus Den Wolken were part of the 1981 "Geniale Dilletanten" (a Berlin festival of amateur experimental bands), promoting raw/minimal post-punk electronic music and heralding the rise of the industrial/noise scene of Berlin along with the likes of Die Tödliche Doris and Einstürzende Neubauten. Pretty sick stuff.

"Under various aliases – the Focus Group, the Advisory Circle, Belbury Poly – the secret chiefs of the Ghost Box label craft an apparently unique strand of British electronica, drawing on library recordings, 1970s schools television and psycho-geographical theory. But, lacking a genesis myth, they’ve exhumed Mount Vernon Arts Lab’s forgotten 1999 album, The Séance at Hobs Lane, which anticipated their innovations, and repackaged it in the livery of their own releases, fabricating evidence of a musical movement. The spiralling cello of The Black Drop has an eerie resonance, and Sir Keith at Lambeth’s shimmering oscillations trigger Proustian memories of teatime terror." (Stewart Lee)

"Frank Saucier and his 3 brothers formed Rayne in 1977, located in the New Orleans suburbia. They recorded the album with good home equipment with no overdubs. The original album (the black album as they called it) was only pressed 300 times and during a moment of frustration they took a box of the albums and shot them with a shotgun. So not many left to sell. The music is first class psych rock, strong compositions, great guitars & vocals, just everything right, something you would expect from a band located in New Orleans. Southern spirit and the tough guys don't dance thing, they play music instead."
